The Impact of Sponsorship

While this year Beer & Bites sponsorship will not include your typical tickets and tables, it will make a meaningful difference for local cancer patients -- continuing our progress and building new partnerships.

Support of Investigator Initiated Trials -Physician researchers often identify new ways of using existing treatments. SSCF is currently involved with such studies in Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and Gioblastoma.

Compassionate Use/Expanded Access Trials -Patients receive promising - but not yet fully studied - cancer therapies when no other treatment option exists. This is an unmet need in the Northwest. The effort, time, and expense preclude the most advanced health care systems from implementing. The South Sound CARE Foundation's new One Source program streamlines the process and provides a unique offering to local patients running out of options.

Moving the Needle on Genitourinary Cancer Trials in the South Sound -  The dedicated Cancer Research Coordinator funded by SSCF through our partnership with MultiCare Institute for Research and Innovation (MIRI) has allowed the MultiCare research team to accept more industry trials and increase enrollment. Over the past two years, 123 patients have gained new access. Overall, MIRI has increased enrollments of GU patients on clinical trials by 151% from 2018 - 2019. 

Community Partnership Expansion -Currently only between 5 and 8 percent of cancer patients nationally participate in clinical trials. While reasons vary, a common theme is lack of access. SSCF is focusing this year on increasing our partnerships and expanding the offerings for South Sound cancer patients.
